Swim Team - BYB The Boston Y Bluefins

Under the supervision of the Senior Aquatics Director, and Head Swim Coach this position assists with swim team practices and swim meets. As well as attending swim team functions and events such as fundraisers, swim clinics and banquets.


  • Provide quality and consistency in all assigned workouts throughout all levels of ability.

  • Attend meets and practices.

  • Write and implement workouts for each practice as instructed by the Swim Team Coordinator.

  • Maintain a professional image and manner consistent with the YMCA mission and goals at all times.

  • Engage in active listening with members in order to build relationships, understand each individual’s goals and interests and take the initiative to assist in the achievement of those goals.

  • Must be able to attend at least 2 practices a week.

  • All other duties as assigned.

  • At least 18 years of age.

  • Swim Team or Swim lesson training needed. Competitive swimming or coaching experience a plus.


  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to high.

  • Primarily evening and weekends, some weekends will require early morning practices or meets.

  • Travel will be necessary to meets and potentially practice sites.

  • Must be able to work in a mild to medium heated environment



  • Physically and verbally able to interact with members and staff.

  • At times, be able to lift up to 50 lbs.


  • Child Abuse Prevention (within first four weeks of employment)

  • Respect in the Workplace (Sexual Harassment Prevention)

  • CPR, First Aid, O2

  • YMCA Principles of Competitive Swimming & Diving

  • USA Swimming Certification (as required by location) *is a plus but not required

  • Safety Training for Coaches or YMCA Lifeguarding
