South Middlesex Opportunity Council Assistant Director, Education Supervisor in Roxanna Street Framingham, Massachusetts

SUMMARY

The Assistant Center Director for the Framingham Child Care/Head Start Center is responsible for assisting the Framingham Center Director with the day-to-day management of all aspects of the center and for ensuring that a safe and nurturing environment is always maintained for the children. They directly supervise the Head Start, preschool and toddler classroom staff and provide backup and support to the after-school program.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage the operational and fiscal activities of the program/department to include staffing levels, budgets, and financial goals.

  • Recruit, manage, develop and evaluate staff by providing timely mentoring, training and performance management. Complete required paperwork in accordance with company policy.

  • Provide a safe and health learning environment and build relationships and a culture of trust and teamwork.

  • Ensure all staff follow SMOC, Head Start, and EEC policies and procedures at all times.

  • Train and be certain staff supervise children at all times

  • Train staff on being a Mandated Reporter and maintain the Master spreadsheets

  • Train staff on best practice and behavior management techniques

  • Prepare and maintain children and staff files to meet all Head Start Performance Standards, EEC Licensing

  • Directly supervise, monthly observe all teaching staff thru reflective supervision (Lead Teachers, Teachers, and Asst. Teachers).

  • Maintain CLASS certification or obtain within 180 days.

  • Monitor classroom paperwork and perform monthly feedback on lesson plans, newsletters, action plans, and assessments.

  • Monitor attendance and attendance supplements and follow up when needed.

  • Facilitate and document Monthly Staff meetings.

  • Regularly attend and participate in Senior Manager Meetings, Head Start Services Meetings, Education Supervisor Meetings and School Readiness Meetings.

  • Monitor and attend, when necessary, classroom Center Staff Meetings.

  • Facilitate and attend Individual Child/Family meetings.

  • Develop and maintain quality curriculum and programming.

  • Ensure a safe environment for children at all times.

  • Coordinate delivery of transportation, health, special education, family and food/nutrition services with other managers in Child Care/Head Start

  • Responsible for ordering of educational supplies and equipment as they are needed.

  • Assist with maintaining facility by ensuring that all maintenance issues are addressed in a timely manner.

  • Responsible for assisting Center Director for re-licensing of the center, and NAEYC accreditation

  • Engage all clients by understanding and addressing their needs whether within or outside the scope of work.

  • Attend & participate in engagement team meetings as requested and communicate effectively with clients and staff in other areas.

  • Maintain confidentiality of client, employee and agency information in accordance with federal and state laws and funder requirements.

  • Ensure compliance with program/department, agency and/or funder requirements, as well as SMOC policies & procedures.

  • Other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS

  • BA Degree in Early Education, preferred or working towards

  • EEC Director II Certification

  • Thorough understanding of EEC licensing regulations, NAEYC Accreditation Process, and HS Standards

  • Understanding of the needs of low-income families; single parent families; working parents; and families in crisis.

  • Previous experience in supervising staff in early education settings or significant experience as Lead Teacher

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Lifting of children in emergency situations.

  • Recent physical exam indicating good health and meeting all EEC and Head Start requirements.

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIP

  • Directly reports to Framingham Center Director.

  • Indirectly reports to Division Director of Child Care/Head Start.

  • Direct reports of this position are Leads, Teachers and Assistants.

  • Indirect reports of this position are Head Start Family Advocates, After School Coordinator, Facility Manager.

WORKING CONDITIONS

As part of the responsibilities of this position, the Assistant Area Director will have direct or incidental contact with clients served by SMOC in various programs funded or administered through the Executive Office of Health and Human Services. A successful background check is required.
