YMCA of Greater Boston Group Educators (School Age) in Roxbury, Massachusetts

Job Description



  • Work Monday-Friday 2:30-6PM keeping students safe in after school program

  • Implement curriculum on a daily basis

  • Assist youth with homework

  • Keep safety of children as a first priority. Emphasizes personal safety and emotional well being with the children, families and other staff at all times.

  • By personal example, helps to interpret the quality of the YMCA character values of children, staff and families.

  • Must be a positive role model.

  • Uses positive and constructive methods of behavior guidance and ensures that all staff does the same.

  • Supervises children to ensure safety and appropriate behavior and manage transitions smoothly.

  • Works to meet daily duties/needs of the program and to be responsible for making sure that materials are read for use and put away at he end of the day.

  • Implements a variety of recreational and educational programs that emphasize group participation and character development

  • Provides activities that foster creativity and awareness of various cultural, educational, recreational, environmental and social issues.

  • Maintains accurate attendance records daily. Stays alert to children’s needs

  • Frequently takes face counts at he beginning, during and at the end of each activity period.

  • Reports all accidents and unusual incidents immediately and assists with necessary documentation.

  • Attends all staff meetings, training sessions and program special events.

  • Participates in at least twenty hours of training per year.

  • Abides by the established EEC/YMA OST policies, procedures, regulations and guidelines. Don’t be afraid to ask when in doubt.

  • Performs other duties as required by supervisor (remain flexible)

Salary Range: $12.00 - $14.00 / hour



  • High School Diploma preferred

  • Minimum one (1) year working with school age children and at least six (6) months experience working with youth ages 5-14

  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a team

  • CPR and First Aid certified
