State of Massachusetts Teacher C - Northern in Shirley, Massachusetts

Teach academic classes as assigned by supervisor including ABE, ESL, PreASE and/or ASE. Classes may be departmentalized to include Reading, Language, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies. Utilize research-based practices, current instructional methods, and current materials to ensure effective instruction. Complete classroom attendance daily. Update inmate case plan as required by SOP. Complete EGT Performance ratings in IMS no later than the last day of the awarding month. Complete required documentation to process 10 day boost as determined by Standard Operating Procedures. Complete required 40 hours of training within the fiscal year and maintains a record of professional development and DOC trainings attended at each Stage A, B, and C performance review. Maintain a current Teaching License as necessary and provides appropriate documentation. Maintain a record of professional development and DOC trainings attended. Provide originals at each Stage A, B, and C performance review. Update timecard promptly to ensure that payroll is processed accurately. Illustrate a comprehensive and current knowledge of DOC policies and procedures. Administers standardized testing to inmates including TABE, TABE CLAS-E, Hiset and Hiset qualifying exams as needed. Maintains inmate education files: perform monthly purge, process incoming and outgoing files, and update inmate educational documentation as needed. Identifies and recruits potential inmate class participants when necessary. Schedules inmates for academic testing and meets with inmates to determine appropriate placement as needed. Determines inmate eligibility for placement in educational programming based on program participation history, current assessment scores, program requirements and interest as needed. Maintains and reviews educational program waitlists as needed. Addresses inmate Case Plan referrals to academic and vocational programming within 30 days as needed. Utilizes an informed understanding of current educational assessments to provide educational instruction.

Complete other duties as assigned that support the Division’s mission. Engage in Division priorities to enhance the progression of strategic goals. Collaborate with other professionals, both inside and outside of the Division of Inmate Training and Education, to contribute to the goals of the Division. Interact and communicate with staff in a professional manner while utilizing appropriate boundaries. Interact and communicate with inmates in professional manner while utilizing appropriate boundaries. Report any and all security related concerns to your supervisor promptly. Conduct assigned classroom in accordance with DESE standards and in accordance with institutional rules and regulation. Performs other duties as assigned. Must have a CurrentMassachusetts Teacher Certification.

Preferred Qualifications: Knowledge of principles, methods, and practices in adult education. Working knowledge of educational tests and assessments. Ability to work with inmates, teaching staff and administration. Experience teaching content (ABE, ESL, PreASE, and/or ASE). Experience teaching adult learners.

This is a Civil Service position. Please note that salaries for union positions are determined according to the provisions of the respective collective bargaining agreement.
