Quantitative Methods Core.

The Department for Healthcare Delivery and Population Sciences (DHDPS) at the University of Massachusetts Chan Medical School–Baystate / Baystate Health is seeking a Director of Quantitative Methods Core (Open Rank), at the Assistant Professor level or above. Reporting to the Department Chair, this position is a key member of the Departmental leadership team, with broad responsibility for incorporating state-of-the-art methods into current and future NIH-funded research across the Department, oversight of study design and analytic methods, and supervision of the biostatistician team. The Department has ongoing studies in various clinical areas including Emergency Medicine, Pediatrics, Pulmonology & Critical Care, Internal Medicine, Addiction Medicine, Psychiatry, and Cardiology.

This position comes with a faculty appointment at the University of Massachusetts Chan Medical School - Baystate.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Serve as Co-Investigator or Principal investigator on investigator-initiated research grants and serve as a mentor on mentored career development awards.

  • Lead / Direct the Quantitative Methods Core, with responsibility for a team currently comprised of 2 Masters- and 1 PhD-prepared biostatisticians. In this capacity, the Director will plan, supervise, and conduct data management activities and statistical analyses for internally and externally funded projects. The Director will also provide mentorship and promote professional development of team members.

  • Collaborate with Department faculty to prepare and submit abstracts for presentation at scientific meetings and manuscripts for peer reviewed publication.

  • Work collaboratively with Department faculty to develop NIH, AHRQ, and foundation -supported grant applications; the Director will take primary responsibility for the development and writing of the analytic strategy and related sections.

  • Develop and maintain expertise with respect to federal and state data management, security and privacy requirements

Required

  • Doctoral degree in biostatistics, epidemiology, or a related field

  • Expertise in quantitative research methods used in health services research

Preferred

  • Expertise in the design and conduct of randomized trials, including clustered designs, and stepped-wedge designs

  • Expertise in observational causal inference methods, including propensity and instrumental variable methods; experience working with large observational data sets, including health insurance claims data

  • Experience with contemporary approaches to data management & security

  • Experience with contemporary data visualization methods

  • Experience as a coinvestigator or principal investigator on a grant with NIH or equivalent funding

  • Experience supervising and/or mentoring biostatistical team

The overarching goals of the Department for Healthcare Delivery and Population Science (DHDPS) at the University of Massachusetts Chan Medical School–Baystate are to achieve better health for the people of the diverse communities we serve; better value of healthcare services; and the elimination of health disparities in all forms. Using state of the art methods in comparative effectiveness research and implementation science, Department faculty develop, implement, and evaluate innovative strategies to transform the delivery of healthcare services; translate evidence into routine practice; and generate new knowledge about what works, when, and under what circumstances. We accomplish this by conducting health services research projects in partnership with our local, regional, and national stakeholders; engaging in community-engaged research; and by employing research faculty and staff with a range of professional expertise as well as lived experiences and perspectives.
