Mass Audubon Education Coordinator in Springfield, Massachusetts

Mass Audubon is looking for a creative, passionate, energetic, and organized Environmental Educator. This Education Coordinator position works as part of a dynamic team of staff who support education efforts at our sanctuaries, regional schools, community venues, and other locations. The Education Coordinator spends the majority of their time coordinating, developing and teaching introductory level programs for youth in accordance with Mass Audubon?s educational philosophy, goals, standards, and practices. They serve as a resource on natural history, environmental justice, and climate change issues for program participants, visitors, staff, and volunteers. The Education Coordinator develops, coordinates, promotes, fundraises for, and evaluates education programs and special events. This Education Coordinator position designs, coordinates and teaches K-12 environmental education programs for public schools in Springfield and surrounding towns. The program focus for this position includes summer and vacation camps (approximately 35%), afterschool programs (approximately 25%) in-school enrichment programs (approximately 40%). During the summer months this position directly supports camp program operations, including hiring, training and supervising summer camp staff, programming planning and implementation. During the school year this position plans and implements afterschool programs and in-school enrichment programs. Most of the duties occur on weekdays with occasional weekend or evening programs. Duties & Responsibilities Management/Supervision: Plan, coordinate, and promote education programs for the Springfield area, in partnership with Springfield schools and community groups. Assist with the maintenance of accurate records of programs, program participants, and education files. Monitor program registration, create and maintain records, and track program revenue and expense data. Inform supervisor of variances and take steps to change program registration trends, if needed. Assist with developing and monitoring program budgets, and maintaining records of revenue and expenses. Track expenditures against budgets and work with team members to take corrective actions, as necessary. Assist with development of regional budgets including revenue forecasts. Assist with recruiting, hiring, training, and supervising part-time, and seasonal/per diem staff to support all programs. Must Have's: Bachelor?s or Master?s degree (or working towards) in life, earth, or environmental sciences, environmental education, nature interpretation, K-12 education, or equivalent. 2-3 years leading environmental education programs, or any equivalent combination of education and related experience. One or more years teaching or working with children or youth in an urban setting. Compensation & Benefits This is a two-year, term-limited, year-round, 40 hour/week, benefit-eligible, non-exempt position. Salary range is $24.04 - $25.97 per hour, commensurate with experience.
