The successful candidate for this position will bring solid experience in online course development, instructional design and facilitation and will collaborate with a like-minded team of learning professionals to provide exceptional learning opportunities and create a continuous learning culture at MassMutual.

Reporting to the Head of Learning & Development, this role will have the unique opportunity to support Talent Management Advisors and Human Resources Business Partners in providing creative solutions to fill skill gaps within the organization while advancing the maturity of the Learning function through the creation and curation of content driving a learner-centric learning strategy.

This role may be based in Springfield, MA or Boston, MA (depending on the candidate), and will require travel 10-15% travel (Springfield, MA, Boston, MA, NYC, or Phoenix, AZ).


  • Consult with Talent Management Advisors to analyze requests and recommend appropriate interventions that can take the form of a facilitated session, a classroom or online course, or a variety of self-directed experiences

  • Assist in the implementation of the Learning Strategy, including the installation, roll out and sustainment of the Degreed learning platform

  • Synthesize concepts from diverse areas such as learning, design, digital communication, visual arts and music to identify, conceptualize and implement creative approaches to developing people

  • Partner with enterprise or business initiatives to design a learning strategy, create or purchase learning content, and manage the elements of the learning plan in partnership with the project manager

  • Conduct facilitation of formal learning sessions as well as ad hoc facilitation of diverse groups for briefings, focus groups, lessons learned or other team-related requests

  • Identify needs that will require externally developed content and work with vendors and Procurement to negotiate cost-effective agreements to meet the needs with high-quality content

  • Collaborate in both work assignments and knowledge sharing; learn productively and purposefully in teams, communities of practice and social networks, internally and externally

  • Display resilience in adapting to changing circumstances and priorities, with the agility to pivot seamlessly when conditions dictate

  • Lead by example; display courage in influencing and moving people toward a common vision in situations without direct authority

  • Display a continuous learning mindset, constantly seeking further expertise in the learning discipline and identifying creative opportunities to bring that expertise to the team’s work

  • Maintain a big picture perspective and engage the right people within the broader community of stakeholders in activities as appropriate

  • Maintain external visibility to development and trends in the Talent and L&D fields; engage in external networks and access external expertise where necessary to be able to provide support and advice to the Talent and Learning teams, the broader HR community and the business groups

  • Support Human Resource projects and initiatives


  • A strong foundation of experience (5+ years) in a training, instructional design, and/or content development role, or similar, with a proven record of accomplishment in delivering effective and innovative learning solutions

  • Highly motivated and able to work independently as well as in partnership

  • A true team player who is interested in building on the ideas of others, supporting the team, and having fun

  • Solid understanding of Instructional Design and adult learning theory

  • Deep knowledge of current technical trends in web-based course development, with a record of exceptional proficiency in design and development of online content

  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills

  • Strong consultative abilities

  • Excellent time management skills, displaying a strong sense of urgency and the ability to quickly manage, adjust and deliver on competing priorities

  • Driven to plan and meet goals and project milestones proactively without compromising work quality

  • 3+ years of experience creating exciting and engaging web-based courseware

  • Bachelor’s Degree or certification in adult education, online learning, instructional design or related areas

  • Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship now or in the future

  • 10-15% travel expected


  • Experience with learning platforms (Workday Learning and Degreed Learning)

  • Proficiency using Articulate 360 or Camtasia

  • Change management experience using the ADKAR model

  • Visual design and/or communication experience

  • Instructor certification for Myers-Briggs Type Indicator, True Colors, Crucial Conversations, or Influencer
