IS183 Art School of the Berkshires Faculty Artist in Stockbridge, Massachusetts

Teach Art as a Faculty Artist in IS183's Learning Through Arts Program (After-School and Summer Positions Available) IS183 is seeking creative professionals to join our team of teaching artists in our Learning Through Arts (LTA) program. This curriculum based approach to extended day art education brings impactful creative opportunities directly to Berkshire County's K-12th grade classrooms. LTA uses the arts to effect social change and reflect the cultural landscape of the Berkshires. IS183's skilled LTA Faculty Artists transform program sites into art studios, sharing their passion for the visual arts through engaging and accessible mixed-media projects. From investigating complex geological processes while wet felting geodes to discovering the patterns of deep sea creatures in watercolor resist, LTA student artists use advanced art techniques to respond to their world and emerge from the program with skills that allow them to explore issues, solve problems, and collaborate effectively with others, both in and out of the classroom. After School (September through June): - LTA takes place at over 11 school sites across the Berkshire County - Classes meet for 1.5 hours (plus a hour of prep time, hour of clean up time, and reporting). - LTA typically meets one or two days per week during after-school time, between 2:30pm and 6pm (depending on school site) -Small classes of up to 15 students - All lesson plans and materials are provided by IS183 and include a diverse range of mixed media techniques. Summer Programs (July through August): - LTA summer programming takes place in the Pittsfield Elementary Schools. - LTA summer meets Monday through Thursday during school-hours, between 8:30am and 3pm (depending on site) plus a hour of prep time and hour of clean up time. - Students follow a daily rotation of academic programming and enrichment activities. LTA Faculty Artists see students on a rotating basis throughout the day, in small classes of up to 15 students. - All lessons and materials are provided by IS183 and include a diverse range of mixed media techniques. Qualifications and Requirements: -Knowledge and familiarity with diverse artistic mediums and eagerness to learn new techniques. -Passionate about making a difference in the lives of children through instilling the value of hands-on participation in the visual arts. -Strong understanding of classroom management techniques and working with challenging student populations. -Strong arts background as professional working artist or in other creative field. -Preferred one year experience in youth programs/educational environment. -Self starter able to work independently and advocate on behalf of the LTA program as a representative of IS183 Art School. -Ability to lift and transport art materials to school sites and set up art projects for art shows. (Rolling art cart provided when required to transport materials) -Ability to remain engaged in light activity and move around classroom space for 1.5 hour-long periods. -Computer access with internet connection required for weekly reporting on GoogleDocs and semi-frequent email communication with IS183 administration. -Reliable transportation required.
