Brandeis University Assistant Dean, GSAS in Waltham, Massachusetts

Brandeis University seeks to hire an Assistant Dean of Graduate Student Affairs (GSAS) that fosters a dynamic community through a diverse, inclusive, and invested student body. This person will support all students, and particularly underrepresented student populations, including but not limited to students of color, LGBTQIA+ students, first-generation students, and international students. They serve as a primary responder to student crises as well as the GSAS liaison to the Graduate Affairs Office. The Assistant Dean, in partnership with multiple offices and departments, develops and supports year-round programming to support student well-being and relate to student life. Additionally, in partnership with the Office of Graduate Affairs and the Assistant Dean of Academic Affairs, they develop and support a robust set of orientation programming and onboarding processes for incoming graduate students. They also support commencement and non-academic exit processes when students graduate. They support the Graduate Student Departmental Representatives and create a structure for official engagement with the Graduate School. They also support and build community among students in the DEIS Scholars program. The Assistant Dean also partners with other staff to assessing the quality of student experiences within GSAS programs. The Assistant Dean leads all communication and social media outreach to current students and partners on outreach to alumni as needed. Key Responsibilities: Serves as a primary responder to student crises and the GSAS liaison to the Office of Graduate Affairs. Collaborates with the Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, the BCC, PARC, the GSC, and existing clubs and organizations to create programming, resources, and strategic initiatives that facilitate the success of our underrepresented student populations, (including but not limited to students of color, LGBTQIA+ students, first generation students, and veterans Builds out a schedule of orientation, year-round programming, and commencement programming related to student life and student wellbeing in collaboration with other departments and offices. Supports the Graduate Student Departmental Representatives Program and the DEIS Scholars Leads all communication and social media outreach to current students and partners on outreach to alumni as needed Qualifications: Education: M.A./M.S. in higher education or an academic discipline required. Work Experience: 3-5 years; additional experience preferred. Additional Qualifications: Experience working with international students. Strong knowledge and experience with diversity, equity and inclusion practices in academic settings. Extraordinary communication and collaboration skills needed, including the ability to manage difficult conversations across academic hierarchies and engage a diverse array of stakeholders. Requires excellent organization skills and ability to multitask. Must be available on occasional evenings and weekends for student facing events.
