The Student Support Services Program (SSSP) is part of the Office of Academic Services and funded by a federal TRiO grant from the Department of Education. The program serves 150 undergraduate students who are first in their family to earn a bachelor?s degree and/or who have overcome financial or other barriers to attend Brandeis. Our team of professional staff and student leaders offer programs and services that build community and promote academic and personal success. The SSSP Career and Graduate School Advisor is an integral contributor to the staff team and a representative of the larger program. On a day-to-day basis, the person in this role will report to the SSSP Program Advisor and ultimately reports to the Student Support Services Program Director who provides overall vision and direction. Duties include providing career and graduate school advising to students of all class years during the academic year. This is a one year position with the potential for renewal for a second year. This position is part time, approximately 10-15 hours a week. Applications must include BOTH a resume and cover letter to be considered. This position is hybrid for Spring 2022. Major Responsibilities: Outreach to SSSP students across class years, providing information about career and graduate school support and services offered, in order to promote remote and in-person engagement Hold weekly career and graduate school advising office hours open to all SSSP students during the academic year. Document notes from meetings. Advise students on career management tasks such as exploring majors and careers, resume and cover letter writing, the job and internship search, interview preparation, developing networking skills, etc. Support students? graduate school application process by providing guidance around the graduate school search, reviewing drafts of personal statements, assisting with GRE preparation, educating students on graduate school funding options, etc. Develop and contribute to group programming (workshops, panels, events) for SSSP students on the topics of career and graduate school. Create content for social media such as flyers and advertisements, and microcontent such as informative short-form videos Assist with alumni outreach in the area of career development. Attend required training and professional development held by Hiatt Career Center. Connect students with appropriate career and graduate school resources such as the Hiatt Career Center, pre-health advising, fellowships advising, and academic departments. Communicate with SSSP Associate Director regarding any student concerns that arise in meetings.
