Brandeis University Temp Studio Art Assistant in Waltham, Massachusetts
Brandeis University seeks to hire a temporary Studio Art Assistant to assist the Studio Art Staff and Faculty with the health and safety in our art studios with a particular focus on sculpture. The Studio Art Assistant will mainly be offering safety assistance during classes. This position is 10 hours per week with the ideal hours being Mondays and Wednesdays from 1:30-5:30 pm and Fridays from 1-3 pm but there is some flexibility. The position runs from February through the end of April. Examples of Key Responsibilities: Safety ? 70% Assist the Studio Art Staff in all aspects regarding the health and safety of Brandeis students in our studios and workspaces located in three different facilities on campus. Help repair or coordinate the repair of tools and machinery. Other duties related to safety include daily building checks; weekly tool inspection; and weekly inspection and handling of hazardous materials. This position requires familiarity with safety protocols in a variety of studio practices and basic shop skills. Supplies ? 10% Monitor tools and restock supplies. Monitoring and Maintenance ? 20% Provide one-on-one technical assistance to students working on projects outside of class time. Qualifications: Bachelor?s degree plus 1-3 years work experience Requires the ability to stand for extended periods of time, bend, stoop, work on ladders, move studio equipment and art and lift up to 30 pounds, etc. Position requires working with power tools. Certain facilities, storage areas, and exhibition spaces require access via stairs. Familiarity with studio procedures, especially in sculpture.
