Brandeis University Temporary Instructor, Genesis Summer 202 in Waltham, Massachusetts

Brandeis University Precollege Programs is seeking Instructors for the 2024 Genesis program, to teach in person at Brandeis University in Waltham, MA. Genesis is a three-week academic and Jewish identity-building program designed for high school students interested in Jewish learning and living. Participants choose one course for the three-week session and complete a capstone project; classroom experience is complemented by trips, activities, workshops and presentations from leaders in the field. Responsibilities: In consultation with the Genesis Director, develop and deliver a 3-week college-level syllabus for one of three Genesis courses: Becoming Themselves: Transformations in the Bible Justice Brandeis, Bread and Roses and Beyond: American Social Movements and the Jews Judaism, Gender, Justice and Allyship Deliver academic content in an engaging, informative, and inclusive manner and in line with overall program learning goals; Orient students to best practices in academic research, including how to use the University Archives; Prepare and teach course in person, Monday-Friday, 10am-12pm (7/27 from 9AM-2PM-Student Showcase); Develop discussion guides and activity plans for Teaching Assistants; Meet with Teaching Assistants twice per week for review, evaluation, and troubleshooting; Hold regular afternoon office hours; Evaluate student work in conjunction with Teaching Assistants and provide ongoing feedback and guidance as the students develop their individual skills and work collectively toward their finalized capstone projects; Attend the Genesis Student Showcase. Qualifications: Experience teaching at the high school or undergraduate level; Strong Judaic knowledge; Ability to develop and deliver academically rich programming for teens in a creative and compelling manner; Passionate about Jewish learning and living; Comfortable working in a diverse environment; Well-organized, thoughtful and committed to Jewish education, access to higher education and social justice; Excellent communication skills, and ability to be in regular communication with the Program Director leading up to and for the duration of the program. Dates Staff Orientation (on campus): July 3-6 Genesis: July 7-28 Teaching Dates: July 8-12, 15-19, 22-26 Compensation/Benefits \$8000 Breakfast and Lunch in Brandeis dining hall when on campus (kosher option available) Access to Brandeis library and resources Note: Must have housing and access to reliable transportation to Brandeis for the entire month of July 2024. Time Commitment 40 hours prior to program orientation 20 hours per week during the program
