PERKINS SCHOOL FOR THE BLIND Asst Education Director ELC/Lower School in Watertown, Massachusetts
As our Assistant Education Director (AED), you will assist in the design and implementation of educational services for students who are blind, visually impaired and those who have multiple disabilities. As a member of a collaborative administrative team, you will: facilitate and assist staff training and communication, carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with school policies and applicable laws. You will interview, hire, and train employees. You will address complaints and resolve problems as well as conduct observations and performance appraisals. You will also reward and implement disciplinary protocols as needed. You will represent the program in campus projects and committees. Your day to day will include: Leadership: You present as a strong advocate for Perkins Early Learning Center and Lower School Programs, students and staff. You collaborate with program staff, students and parents to develop and provide focused vision on the direction of the program in both the short and long term. You work with upper administration on identifying educational and program needs. You identify professional development needs and opportunities and participate in staff recognition. You develop and provide innovative, progressive and data-informed educational programming and interventions for a diverse student and staff group, including accessing efficient, current technology. IEP Chair, Oversight and Implementation: You co-lead collaboratively with the Education Coordinator a multi-disciplinary team in the development of IEPs and implementation of programming for students who are visually impaired and multiply impaired. You coordinate the team in the implementation of IEP goals related to academic, independent living, vocational, social, and recreational skills. You maintain communication with students, parents, staff and other school departments. You assist the Local Education Authority (LEA) in developing individual education plans (IEPs), and oversee the implementation of programs. You work with the Secondary residential team and Health Services to coordinate programs for students living in the Secondary Program while attending the school day program in Lower School. Scheduling: You work with lead teacher, Lead RSP, teachers and RSPs to plan class groups and adjust students? schedules as necessary. You develop and continually update student and staff schedules. Supervision: You manage and supervise employees in the Educational Programs You observe classes and service delivery and hold regular supervision meetings for assigned staff. You ensure staff is compliant with all regulations required by licensing authorities. You coordinate and provide trainings and in-services to staff. You provide feedback to encourage professional growth and student success. You regularly review professional development plans. You provide support and guidance to ensure staff views their work load as manageable and view Perkins as a positive place to work. You assist staff in developing professional development plans. Compliance Management: You ensure the program is compliant with all regulations promulgated by licensing authorities. You assist in the development, adaptation, and implementation of curriculum aligned with the Massachusetts Curriculum Framework and the Expanded Core Curriculum. You assist in the coordination of the MCAS tests and Alternate Assessment Portfolios. You coordinate and schedule staff in-services. You assist in the development of the program budget.
