The primary purpose of this position is to provide installation level subject matter expertise on physical activity programs to all government beneficiaries including active duty military, family members, retirees, and Department of Defense (DoD) civilians. Serves as a consultant to commanders to maximize physical performance of AF members.
Manages physical activity referrals for individuals from the Military Treatment Facility. Determines individual physical activity level and designs appropriate exercise prescriptions for clients and communicates with health care providers
Provides education, training, and technical support to encourage physical activity and promotes and markets health promotion programs to the Air Force community
Provides training and support to units to administer and implement effective physical fitness training programs
Serves as the installations subject matter expert on exercise science. Provides guidance/consultation at all levels to include wing, group, unit and individual levels on all aspects of physical training and fitness testing
Conditions of Employment
In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Professional and Scientific Positions +IOR for GS-0601 Series. BASIC REQUIREMENT: Bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree: major study in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences or allied sciences appropriate to the work of the position. This degree must be from an educational program from an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. NOTE: You must submit a copy of transcripts. AND SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-07, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience includes knowledge of established principles, concepts, and techniques of exercise physiology to plan and conduct advanced fitness testing, interpret test results, and develop physical fitness plans; evaluation, planning, implementation, and evaluation techniques and principles as they apply to fitness programming and education. OR EDUCATION: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree which demonstrated the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position. OR COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-07 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-09 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks. NOTE: Applicants applying as VEOA candidates who are current GS civil service employees or are prior GS civil service employees within the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: 1. Professional knowledge of the principles necessary to develop, implement, and evaluate multi-faceted physical activity programs for installation beneficiaries. 2. Knowledge and experience in administering health screening and fitness assessments, exercise prescriptions, progressive individual physical activity programs, and proper exercise techniques sufficient to conduct comprehensive health and physical activity programs. 3. Knowledge of common diseases, prognosis, medication, treatment methods, disease response to exercise, and medical terminology to apply this information to individual physical activity program needs. 4. Knowledge of health communication strategies to effectively promote a comprehensive physical activity program. 5. Ability to provide education on physical activity using a variety of modalities to address factors such as goal setting, behavior change theories, human behavior, motivational strategies, and counseling techniques. 6. Skill in the application and utilization of the concepts, principles, and practices relating to health promotion to ensure exercise/fitness programs are balanced properly, utilize, protect, and enhance the individual's wellness experience. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
