DESCRIPTION Do you enjoy trying out math approaches to find out what “clicks” for a student? Do you believe that word problems are everywhere and love making math concepts relatable to students? So do we! The Sylvan Math Academic Coach is a subject matter expert in mathematics and a best-in-class educator. The Coach is responsible for creating a positive personal learning experience for students by teaching students according to the design of the Sylvan Math programs. The Coach evaluates student progress on each assignment, communicates this progress, and works with Center staff to ensure learning is personal for every student. That is, the Coach is student focused, encouraging, and patient because, we know, that sometimes math can be tough! BENEFITS OF WORKING AT SYLVAN * No lesson planning or prep. KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED * Math Program Tutors:* Four-year degree required in a discipline requiring three or more years of college level math * Minimum of one or two years of tutoring experience in Algebra 1 or 2, Geometry, Precalculus/Trigonometry, Calculus, or Statistics * College and Secondary/Independent School Test Prep Tutors:* Four-year degree or equivalent required * Minimum or one or two years of tutoring experience in SAT, ACT, SSAT, ISEE, or HSPT Math/Quantitative prep preferred * Academic Coaching Program Tutors:* Four-year degree or equivalent preferred * Minimum of one or two years of tutoring experience in subject areas such as Algebra 1 or 2, Geometry, Precalculus/Trigonometry, Calculus, Statistics, Biology, Chemistry, or Physics required * Knowledge of study strategies for organization and time management, note-taking, test-taking, and goal-setting preferred The above statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed.
