This cohort includes students who eventually apply to a health professions school, most likely in their first five postgraduate years. Thus advising requirements last for several years and the office must maintain extensive files in order to support applications at any time to professional programs for training in medicine (allopathic and osteopathic) dentistry, veterinary medicine, graduate nursing programs, public health, and sciences. We seek a part-time (10 hours per week) Health Professions Advisor reporting to the Director of Science & Health Professions Advising. The individual will advise undergraduates and alumni interested in the health professions, particularly medicine. The Adviser works closely with academic departments to deepen partnerships and encourage development of students' graduate and professional plans. In addition to advising, this position will serve as a member of the Health Professions Committee and support the director in interviewing, evaluating, and composing letters of recommendation for students in the committee process. The position requires close contact with students, academic advisors, faculty members, and medical schools. It is preferred that candidates for the position hold a Masters or higher degree. Experience with academic advising and familiarity with medically-related fields is highly desirable. Exceptionally strong writing and presentation skills are essential.
