About the Job
We are seeking an exceptional RN to partner with our emergency and urgent care teams in our quest to seamlessly onboard new staff. Candidates must possess the ability to demonstrate advanced thinking, partner with internal stakeholders, and apply modern teaching methods which take into account past knowledge and experiences of all staff. This role is responsible for providing structured orientation, training, and early preceptorship to new hires, as well as creating and ensuring ongoing competencies are sustained for all staff. The Educator will be deeply involved in aligning work with TJC, Magnet, and ENA standards, and will work collaboratively with leaders in a highly visible and professional role. This role requires excellent verbal and written communication skills as well as proficiency in a variety of electronic platforms. This is a great opportunity for a Bachelor's prepared RN who has either earned or plans to work towards a Master's degree. The Educator works very closely with department leadership to plan, implement, and evaluate elements of performance that need to be carried out to all staff. Incumbents will have the ability to carry out department-based standards of practice/protocols, which are compatible with the philosophy and goals of the nursing department. The Educator will be delegated responsibility to coordinate and implement efforts to ensure all staff comply with policies, procedures, practices. In order to sustain practice standards, this role will work as an ED or UC RN for one shift per week.
Required : Bachelors degree in Nursing, Masters degree within 5 years
Preferred: Master’s Degree
Required : Clinical experience in Emergency Services. Demonstrated ability to effectively prepare, coordinate, and execute educational sessions geared towards the needs of the department.
Required: C omputer skills, data management skills, ability to lead projects to achieve desired outcomes, strong interpersonal and collaboration skills
Preferred: LEAN experience
LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS, CERTIFICATIONS:
Required: Massachusetts Registered Nurse License
Preferred: Certification in clinical specialty upon hire
LIFE SUPPORT CERTIFICATION REQUIRED: Advanced Cardiac Life Support and Pediatric Advanced Life Support certification.
POPULATION SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS: Infant, children, adolescent (age 13 to 18), adult and geriatric.
OTHER JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Professional Commitment Requirements: Keep abreast of developments in the field and/or licensure through continuing education, participation in professional organizations or a combination of both.
Schedule requirements: Generally Monday through Friday, with variations to support the needs of the department.
Travel requirements: Supports both the hospital and the Urgent Care sites.
Reports to ACNO or designee
No direct reports however provides ongoing performance feedback to department leaders.
Leads teams at the direction of the ACNO and/or Manager, and may direct the work of others in that capacity.
As part of the Emergency Services team, this position:
Monitors the performance of the provision of all components of emergency services and Identifies education needs of colleagues.
Actively leads and develops the orientation of nurses, acting as a clinical mentor, initial preceptor, and operational resource
Prepares and monitors new clinical staff performing functions in Emergency Services ensuring alignment with ENA standards and Winchester Hospital policies and procedures.
Responsible for the successful training of new nurses resulting in their ability to practice in a pre-determined time frame. Provide support to established designated preceptors as they work in tandem to provide education and ongoing evaluation of new hires.
Creates and participates in providing educational activities for maintaining staff clinical competence. Coordinates service-line specific competencies with the appropriate Service Line Specialists.
Functions in the role of ED or Urgent Care Nurse role in order to sustain skills and knowledge of role, as well as to meet the needs of the department.
Communicates and incorporates the Culture of Safety tools and preventable harm event concept into daily practice, adhering to quality and safety guidelines and communicating near-miss or potential risks.
Facilitates the clinical rotations for all disciplines dedicated to Emergency Services including but not limited to students of nursing, techs, paramedics..
Under the direction of departmental leadership, attends and actively participates in meetings as delegated.
Supports nurses’ professional development efforts to include mentoring and coaching as the registered nurses pursue programs such as advanced degrees, PNAP and certifications.
Leads improvement teams and initiatives. Develops, monitors and utilizes approved metrics to demonstrate evidence of department improvements.
Participates in unit-based education, performance initiatives and efforts to continually align with the hospital and system strategic plan.
Serves as an expert clinical resource to other staff members.
Fosters an environment of best practices, using ENA guidelines and clinical expertise to improve patient outcomes and nursing competencies.
Acts as the clinical expert in the patient’s healthcare team, providing consultation at the bedside in order to optimize patient outcomes.
Demonstrates and fosters a commitment to hospital, department and unit performance improvement initiatives, goals and directives. Supports department leaders in efforts to implement change and improve patient outcomes. Adheres to quality and safety guidelines and communicates performance and safety concerns through the appropriate chain of command.
Role models the Magnet standards of professional development and clinical practice.
Supports evidenced based practices resulting in an outstanding patient experience for all patients and families. This includes the rounding process, effective hand offs between shifts in the department as well as within the hospital and during the transfer process to other facilities.
Identify supply/equipment issues in a timely manner and communicate appropriately in order to ensure availability of necessary items.
Functions effectively in patient crisis situations and utilizes emergency resources.
Fulfills all required documentation accurately, legibly and timely.
Communicate effectively with the healthcare team utilizing handoff and other communication procedures. Role model the ability to give and accept respectful feedback to enhance teamwork and improve patient outcomes.
Appropriately follows the chain of command and adheres to hospital policies and procedures.
Maintains a clean and safe work environment to enhance patient satisfaction and a culture of safety.
