MCPHS University Assistant Director, Clinical Education in Worcester, Massachusetts
The Assistant Director of Clinical Education (DCE) workswith the Director of Clinical Education and Academic Coordinator of Clinical Education (ACCE) to assure the effectiveness of clinical education on campus and at MCPHS affiliated clinical education sites for the School of Physical Therapy.
Participates with implementation and monitoring of the clinical education component of the DPT curriculum
Assists with placement, supervision and evaluation of students during all clinical education experiences
Contributes to clinical faculty development activities
Conducts clinical site visits to supervise students and mentors clinical instructors, as needed
Supervises students at a site for Integrated Clinical Education courses in the fall and spring semesters
Participates in the Cumulative Practical Exam (CPE) process by grading and coordinating as needed
Assists with evaluation of each clinical education site through student feedback, on-site visits, and ongoing communications and routinely shares this information with academic and clinical faculties
Provides feedback to clinical educators concerning their effectiveness in delivering clinical learning experiences based on student feedback and through direct observations
Assists with administrative responsibilities consistent with CAPTE, federal/state regulations, institutional policy and practice setting requirements
Identifies, establishes, and maintains relationships with quality clinical education sites and the community for the purpose of further development and support of physical therapy clinical education
Oversees and coordinates the development and execution of agreements and/or contracts with clinical sites to be involved in the clinical education experiences for DPT students
Communicates with stakeholders (e.g., the academic institution, clinical education sites, academic faculty, clinical faculty, students and clinical education advisory board members) to maintain current knowledge of the educational program, the clinical education site, and health care changes affecting clinical practice and education
Facilitates quality learning experiences for students during clinical education through supervision, instruction, advice and counsel to students and clinical faculty
Evaluates students’ performance, in cooperation with other faculty, to determine their ability to integrate didactic and clinical learning experiences and to progress within the curriculum
Contributes to ongoing assessment for the clinical education component of the curriculum to include a record keeping system, report writing, and assessment of clinical education sites and clinical faculty
Participates in the CAPTE accreditation via document preparation, meetings and on-site evaluation
Maximizes available resources for the clinical education component of the DPT curriculum
Performs academic responsibilities consistent with CAPTE and with institutional policies.
Participates at the Clinical Education Advisory Board meeting which consists of area educators, employers, academic and clinical faculty
Performs other duties as assigned by the DCE and the Program Director of School of Physical Therapy
DPT degree required, academic doctorate preferred
Current physical therapist licensure or eligible for MA state licensure
A minimum of three years clinical experience as licensed physical therapist
A minimum of three years of clinical teaching and/or clinical education coordination
Member of the APTA
Strong communication, organization, technology, interpersonal, problem-solving, and counseling skills
Knowledge of legislative, regulatory, legal and practice issues affecting clinical education, students and the profession of physical therapy
Able to work with students with special needs based on the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)
Able to travel, as needed
Knowledge of database management
Knowledge of Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE)
Higher education experienced preferred
Previous administrative experience desirable
